All About Essential Oils

The treatment room is the ultimate sanctuary, and our goal is to give you a service that treats both the skin and the spirit. You may have noticed that whenever you’re in our treatment rooms, you can smell essential oils in the air. Whether it be eucalyptus or lavender, more often than not, there is some form of essence within the rooms. We like to spray some essential oils throughout the space- linens, warm towels, you name it! The goal is to create an environment where you can really let go and relax- and aromatherapy can singlehandedly bring you that experience. Today I want to chat all about essential oils and how they can help your wellbeing in and outside of the treatment room.

MAY 5 2025

Have you ever walked into a spa and immediately felt the weight of the world melt away? Your shoulders drop, your breathing gets deeper, and your mind gets clearer. It’s almost as if stepping through those doors transports you away from all the stress, anxiety, and heaviness you may be feeling. That’s the power of creating a peaceful environment. You may be coming to us to treat your skin, but you’re really here to unwind. At In the Nude Skincare, we want to create a space for you to step away from the outside world, focus solely on yourself, and just relax. Your skin glowing by the end of your treatment is just a bonus 😉.

It is so easy to get wrapped up in all the new treatments and products, and as much as these innovations do help the skin, certain regimens have been practiced for years. This is where essential oils come in. A treatment that seems like it has nothing to do with your skin, yet everything to do with your wellbeing. Taking care of your mind and spirit reduces stress and promotes healing, which affects the way your skin manages stress and healing. Essential oils have been known to promote relaxation and have calming effects, but how?

Essential oils have multiple properties, such as aiding in both spiritual and self care practices. Spiritually, essential oils have been used to induce relaxation and calm the mind through their strong scents- which act as a form of grounding. Essential oils have roots in history dating all the way back to 4500 BC in ancient Egypt. It is even believed that Cleopatra’s beauty was credited to her spa treatments that included the usage of essential oils. Essential oils were a huge part of ancient Egypt’s culture, such as the usage in ‘tinctures, powders, salves, and ointments’ (Lebermuth, 2019). Essential oils can be seen as a vital point to other cultures, such as in India and their Ayurvedic practices.

Now that you know a little more about the roots of essential oils, I want to talk about how you can incorporate this into your routine- specifically when winding down. As I mentioned, I love to use essential oils when giving treatments, and as much as taking home skin care is important to keeping up with your skin regimen, utilizing essential oils can act as if you never left the treatment room. Scent can trigger memory, and is easily one of my favorite ways to remind myself of the luxury of a treatment and elevate my space.

Picture this: you’re finally ready to take off your makeup from the day and start your skincare routine. The lights are dim, and a candle is lit. In comes a wave of lavender, eucalyptus, and mint. You breathe in the air, and immediately, your mind relaxes. Any spiraling thoughts or heavy emotions from the day are immediately melted away once you take in the strong scent of the oils.

Incorporating essential oils in your daily routine doesn’t have to be a hassle. Some of the ways I love to use them throughout the week or even on a day-to day basis are:
  • 🧴 Placing a few drops in your lotion
  • 🫧 Spritzing the oil in the air (bonus points during a shower when the air is hot and steamy)
  • 💆 As a scalp treatment (I love to mix essential oils with other beneficial oils like rosemary!)
  • 💧 Mist a blend over my pillows and bedding before bed to wind down and set the mood
  • 🌿 Topically (place a few drops where you would perfume: behind the ears, neck, wrists, etc.)

If you’re sold at this point, yet don’t know where to start, I highly recommend Get Good Juju. Get Good Juju’s founder Sandra has been in the esthetic field for 30 years and decided to start Get Good Juju in 2020 when lockdown made it impossible to continue with in person treatments. Her creation of take-home facials turned into curating essential oil blends, and is how Get Good Juju was born. Their No. 2 blend is my absolute favorite to use in the treatment room and is my go-to when winding down at night. It’s a blend of lavender and peppermint to create the perfect combination of relaxation and mental clarity. Get Good Juju’s blends are intentionally curated to enhance your senses and serves as the perfect addition to your self care routine.
