First off, we need to break down the different kinds of rosacea- because yes, there are levels to it. Rosacea can be broken down into 4 different subtypes including: Erythematotelangiectatic, Papulopustular, Phymatous, and Ocular rosacea. Check out the infographic below for a breakdown of the individual types:

Rosacea doesn’t discriminate, but it does have its favorites. While anyone can develop it, fair-skinned individuals are most commonly affected—especially women, though men often experience more severe symptoms. Wondering “Why me?” or “How do I stop this?”- I’ve got you. Rosacea tends to run in families, particularly among those with Northern or Eastern European roots. While you can’t exactly prevent it from showing up, you can keep it from stealing the spotlight. Certain triggers can cause flare-ups, and cutting back on them can help keep your skin calm. Some common culprits include:
- Alcohol
- Spicy foods
- Sun exposure (wear and reapply that SPF!)
- Pro-tip: We love to use All Calm Clinical Corrector SPF on Rosacea as it acts as an AC unit for your face—cooling, calming, and protecting your skin while you wear it.
- Hot drinks
- Pro-tip: Can’t part with your daily latte? No worries! Apply a cooling Lipid Recovery Mask while you sip—it’s like a mini spa moment that soothes your skin while you indulge.
- Hot baths or showers
- Stress
Reducing the amount of these things in your day-to-day will allow flare ups to be kept at bay. If those seem too difficult to cut out- don’t worry bestie! I’ve also got some skincare and treatment tips for you, in case that’s more up your alley.
Most skin conditions can be traced back to an impaired skin barrier, and since rosacea is essentially skin sensitivity to the max, repairing your skin’s barrier will do the trick! The best way to do this is to implement a skin care regimen that not only treats, but hydrates.
One of the- arguably- most important things in a balanced skin care routine is the cleanser. To support rosacea, I recommend anything hydrating and non -stripping. I absolutely love the Epictuis Oil Cleanser. This cleanser preserves your skin’s natural oils and uses two botanical based fatty acids to mildly cleanse while still leaving the skin feeling soft. Since this cleanser is oil based, it easily unclogs pores and melts away makeup for the perfect base to the rest of your routine.
Now that our skin is properly cleansed, going in with a serum that treats the skin is important! Since rosacea leaves the skin inflamed, we’re going to want to apply something soothing and calming. My absolute favorite thing to treat inflammation is the Colorescience All Calm Multi-Correction Serum. This lightweight serum adds hydration to the skin, while also treating and reducing redness. The cooling serum gives inflamed skin relief, while also promoting a smoother texture. To add in a bit more hydration before the actual moisturizer, I’ll go in with the Epicutis Lipid Serum. This silky serum delivers instant hydration to combat inflammation, dryness, and sensitive skin. Not only does it provide instant relief, it’s quick absorption into the skin works to heal long-term to prevent redness and fight collagen breakdown at a cellular level.
You’re going to want a moisturizer that not only deeply hydrates your skin, but is protecting it as well. My favorite one for these benefits is the Epicutis Hyvia Creme. It’s key ingredient, hyvia, is a chia seed oil that moisturizes while strengthens the skin’s barrier and blocks blue light damage. The thick cream leaves your skin feeling plump and dewey- perfect for combatting any dry and inflamed skin!
SPF protection is extremely important in any case- but especially with rosacea. Persistent redness is no fun, but Colorescience’s All Calm Clinical Redness Corrector with SPF 50 changes the game. This treatment not only has SPF 50 to protect the skin, but immediately corrects redness with it’s green undertone. Alongside the immediate correcting, it treats the skin long-term with a Biosolace complex that calms and soothes the skin, and combats redness overtime. It’s like a magic potion for your skin!
